Silver Spoon by Connected

What I just smoked was a joint of Silver Spoon with some kief dust added to it, the kief scraped from the basement of my grinder.

I have smoked more than half of this eighth of Silver Spoon from Connected—purchased in March in Tucson, AZ—but this strain has never really ‘done it’ for me. From here in western St. Louis County Missouri, I took one Silver Spoon joint back west on our most recent drive to Tucson. I smoked that Silver Spoon at the Chiricahua Apache Plaza east of Deming, New Mexico. I had driven us to Chiricahua from Ruidoso, NM, my wife took the wheel from there. I burned one with only the skies, the mountains, and idle semis around. We got back on I-10.

Stopped at Chiricahua Apache Plaza east of Deming, NM, April 2026.

But despite the sublimely stark scenery, the Silver Spoon never hit. Maybe I expected too much, maybe I was too tense despite not being in the driver’s seat. A few years earlier a Grape Stomper pre-roll I bought in Roswell delivered unquestioned effects along a similar stretch of I-10. Then earlier this year, a Super Boof Lost Farms gummy had me putting pen to paper along the same exact stretch of interstate. Folks on the AZ Ents reddit speak highly of Silver Spoon, so what’s up?

Expectations are hard to meet, they act like walls, like obstacles. I remember that wall deck I used to have, playing Magic: The Gathering with my brother. What happened to those days? Wandering days, nothing stays, we’re all in plays, now shortening days while a woodpecker brays and this old towel under me frays.

Hah. Maybe the Silver Spoon is working for me after all. I have no reason to doubt the AZ Ents page. I recently commented on a post that ranked the “25 Best Arizona sativas,” a useful morsel of intelligence that was authentic i.e. real, not artificial. Artifice, artful. Not arty, not painterly but implying some trickery, cunning, equivocation, sleight of hand, legerdemain—not the whole truth. In other words, fake—this new, modern content that we are getting so ex$$$$ited about. Who owns these AI stocks? Maybe AI itself owns the AI stocks, drives them up. Maybe it really is a new species, borne of us, the first species flowing down (or up?) the family tree from Homo sapiens.

Silver Spoon. And kief. Just a sprinkle. It helps “take things up a notch.” LOL, famous last words. [16:59]

June 12, 2026, 17:33, a Friday (Another Silver Spoon session)

We lived in a time of borrowed time; branches heavy hanging over skylights. One might always die first, what a plan.

Ask not what your strain can do for you but what you can do for your strain!

I smoked a bowl of Silver Spoon from Connected half an hour ago. Hemp-wicked it. Fine, fine.

It is a tasty smoke. Some tropical fruit flavor, aroma. I have a buzz but it’s a gentle one. Gentle sativa? Have the strength to be gentle. I have some body tingles. I’m putting pen to paper. I’ve had a few funny thoughts. Maybe my expectations are just too damn high. What do I think is going to happen? I’m going to get so high I’ll…what? Fully compose a viable short story? Write two new poems? Remember my dreams? Have visions?

Is it enough just to sit and noodle? To read, sip a drink, write a few paragraphs? It is enough not to fall asleep, not to be bored? Maybe that’s my threshold: dear smoke, just lead me not to boredom.

I brought this jar back from Arizona. Last time I went I brought nothing back save for a few joints. Arizona flower does not seem to be appreciably better than Illinois flower, or Missouri flower. My expectations are usually so damn high—or my tolerance is?—that a strain never seems to impress me anymore, at least not initially. Maybe I just have too much drink in my system—or in my life—that any strong smoke deep-sixes me and I never write anything intelligible about the best smokes. It’s a fine line, and maybe I keep stepping over it

This Silver Spoon has an effect but I’m not finding much dimension. Maybe I’d have to have another bowl, and could. I am comparing it to other hazy sativas such as Tropical Z from Connected. The Trop Z seemed to take me higher and it also (the Trop Z) had excellent carry. The Trop Z unfurled two or three chapters. It did wardrobe changes and came out to entertain a little longer.

I’m having a better time with the Silver Spoon tonight but I cannot beat back a sense of wanting more. It might be not a shortcoming of the Silver Spoon but within he who hath smoked it. I have a strong level of confidence in Alien/Connected as growers/purveyors/a brand. I loved their Biskante, Trop Z, and RS-11. Gelonade was pretty good. Biscotti was a tasty knock-out indica. Nightshade did not do it for me. Neither did XJ-13. [18:01]

This has been my favorite year so far for Best of American Short Stories. 1997 also strong.
