Orange Soda by Paul Bunyan

5.7.25

The strain Orange Soda was all I smoked yesterday. One .35-gram joint. It does have an orange aroma in the jar, in spite of its age. I don’t get that orange note in the flavor of the smoke. At least, I didn’t when I was puffing on it last night. I’m about to have another.

Thinking back on last night, I guess I was tired and done. I had laundry hanging; to take down. Then I made dinner: pasta. Had my vodka ration. Didn’t have hard alcohol beyond the ration but I did have a few beers. Fell asleep on the couch. Hugo the Dog had been driving me nuts. I had to put him behind the bedroom door while I prepped dinner. After that, he wouldn’t settle down. It drains my energy. My wife is out of town. I fell asleep watching the Cubs game.

I enjoy being able to hang laundry to dry, especially outside.

Dauber dirt. Collect it. Mix it up, wet it down, use it to plug cement joints or weep holes along the foundation.

Early sativa, aphrodisiac high. Some good idea, high-deas. An appetite in a minute. Glossy-eyed effect. Strong stuff, maybe just a little citrus on the exhale. Otherwise, dirt. Gas mask.

Later on…

17:37. The Orange Soda was serious fuel.

I did more work than I planned to. I was ambitious but not hurried or frenetic. Somewhat uninhibited. Productive. Industrious. On my feet.

Slinging Bondo, caulking, looking for and spraying ant activity. Cooking lunch. Keeping things tidy. Sawing, cutting, throwing away, sweeping, organizing.

It was a good day of work. Smoking the Orange Soda seemed to catalyze; it certainly didn’t slow me down.

A clear, strong sativa on what was—what used to be—a mostly sunny day.

3.58 grams of Orange Soda from Paul Bunyan, pkg 3.28.2024.
It’s not the prettiest bud but it’s serious, clean-burning fuel.

Another Orange Soda session, a week later

Orange Soda joint.

Idea for a new website: frontporchbirding.com

Took some of the laundry down. Saw the copperhead again, same spot. Then it went back under the low porch. That knocked my buzz; harshed me out a bit; not great.

I’m rallying back. I feel that Soda. It’s a great smoke, that buzz, an electricity. A body sativa; bit of a shaker.

If it were on a menu again, I’d snap it up. I’ve had a jar this year and I had a jar last year. Both were good to the last bud.

I’ve had other PTS/Paul Bunyan but the Orange Soda has been way better than anything else I’ve had from them. Papaya x Gelato wasn’t bad but Panama Mac was forgettable. Macnanna was just OK.

I bought this jar back in 2024. Held onto it for almost a year. It was still very good! I must have put a moisture pack in there to bring it back. It’s not the prettiest bud but they gave me 3.58 grams.

This was a disappearing eighth and it will also be a Strain of the Year candidate for 2025, despite it not appearing so far on the Beyond/Hello menu at any point this year. Maybe it’s up in Collinsville/Maryville/Edwardsville. Bring it back to Sauget, please.

Copperhead Road ran through our back yard this Spring.

Orange Soda Lineage

It’s a cross of Jilly Bean and Chem D.

My source is an article from the Illinois News Joint website. Source: link here. The article is written by Michael Lesley, dating from 4.1.2023.

Jilly Bean was before my time but I know it had its adherents. It’s one of those erstwhile strains I’d love to get my hands on, just to see what it was about, back when. Chem D I know from Chem crosses. It’s one of the three phenotypes of the legendary Chem Dawg.

Jilly Bean is Orange Velvet x Space Queen. Source: Seedfinder. Orange Velvet is Skunk #1 x Unknown Strain. Space Queen is Romulan x Cindy 99. I have liked strains with Orange Velvet in them. I liked the jar of Romulan I had this year (from Aeriz). And Cindy 99 is built on a heap of classic sativa building blocks like Jack Herer, Haze, Santa Maria Gold, Hawaiian, Wacky Weed, Hawaiian, Colombian. That’s a sativa Hall of Fame there.
