Jar Opening/Weigh-In
There are 3.69 grams of bud in the jar, a generous portion. This strain called Night Owl Haze smells good. It has that citrus tang and aromas of pine. The bud has a rocky feel. It’s long in the tooth. The jar has a package date of 3.6.2024. It is March 18, 2025 as I write. Although the jar carried an inner wafer-style seal, I sense that the seal might have come loose at some point, and this bud has dried out. Nonetheless, I will forge ahead and roll some of it up anyway. It’s not the bud’s fault I let it sit so long.
First Smoke
It’s six p.m. on March 18. The Night Owl Haze is not bad. There isn’t any flavor but it’s not harsh. It’s a mellow smoke and the joint burned well.
Not much bite. Not racy. Mellow effects. Hazy. Or maybe that’s the Gorilla Glue in it. I ate, didn’t let the dog bother me. Cleaned up. In other words, I’m not messy-stoned. More like tidy-high but with some heaviness in my body. The weed always tells me where my inflammation is.
I’m home alone. It’s warm and gusty outside. It’s getting dark at 19:23 central daylight time. I’m listening to a college basketball tournament play-in game. I am not comfortable sitting up in bed, writing. My back is barking at me.
There are cardinals at the feeders, still. It’s close enough to dark that I can only barely make out the dark red of the male cardinals. It’s gloaming. The wind finds its voice through the trees. Down the hill, then up and over the next one.
Feels like a gummy high. I am chill without being drunk, sloppy, stoned. Probably because I did not start drinking so damned early. These are better days. Stay up, smoke, sip, listen to sports. Write and read. Drink a cup of green tea. Tasty. Gives a little lift.
Second Smoke
Another day I smoked first a .3g joint of Night Owl Haze, then followed that after a few hours with a .3g joint of Rythm’s Animal Face. The Night Owl Haze granted a pleasant, unhurried, contented buzz. The Animal Face was, in comparison, much more racy and trippy.
Both delivered noticeable, formidable effects. Depends what you’re in the mood for. It’s interesting, though, that the Night Owl Haze is considered the sativa and Animal Face is considered indica-leaning (at least, Rythm labels it indica-leaning, but I have seen it described as a sativa elsewhere, e.g. on the Seedfinder site, where Cap Junky, the breeder, calls Animal Face “mostly sativa,” but I digress, link here).
The Night Owl Haze really was quite nice. After I smoked I went and swept up leaves and windblown debris from the garage floor. A tree hit our house earlier, its upper branches. Damaged some shingles and a gutter. Sounded like a team of clydesdales being landed on our roof. This was before I smoked. I didn’t smoke until after a couple hours cutting up much of the upper parts of the tree first with a pole saw and then with a chain saw. Cut my wife’s arm with the pole saw. It was a fiasco. The Haze helped calm me down.

Further Sessions with the Night Owl Haze
Returning to the Night Owl Haze after a couple weeks away in the desert. I took a couple Night Owl rolls with me. Smoked the first in Ruidoso, New Mexico. My wife and I were staying in the Best Western Pine Springs in Ruidoso Downs. It’s a cool, old hotel. I stepped out into the picturesque grounds there and burned one. I was zooted. We watched the finale of Cory Booker’s record-breaking Senate filibuster speech on CSPAN2. The Haze offered some aphrodisiacal properties. It was a good night.
The bud is old by this point but once I added a moisture pack to it, and let it sit for 24-48 hours, I was greeted with a surprising aroma from the jar. It was a turpentine aroma, with some inky or even magic marker scent as well. And it started to have a flavor as well. Berry-like. Maybe that’s how Haze is supposed to taste. Light and fruity.
I haven’t usually felt terribly “high” on the Night Owl Haze but it has served as fuel to keep me productive and active. It’s an even-keeled effect, a background lift. We came home to water in our basement, in the HVAC ductwork. I puffed on the Night Owl Haze and just pondered, didn’t get too down.
After being a little disappointed when I initially opened this eighth, I have come around on the Night Owl. I would get it again. The lineage is Screamin’ Bubblegum Haze x Gorilla Glue #4 (source: link here). An unusual cross.
