Giesel by Proper

My buddy had some pre-rolls from Proper so we smoked one of them. He selected a strain called Giesel, which neither of us knew. He had “day time” written on the pre-roll container so someone must have suggested to him that it was a sativa or sativa-leaning. I didn’t find that to be the case but I did enjoy the thrumming, energy behind-my-eyelids effects.

Judging just by the name, I would have thought Giesel had something to do with Sour Diesel. This is not the case! The lineage of Giesel is quite succinct, as compact a lineage degustation as you will find. According to seedfinder.eu (link here), Giesel is a Chem D cross done by the apocryphal Chemdog himself.

I felt couch-lock effects but my buddy was motivated to cook a pork tenderloin (not pictured).

As a strain, Giesel has been around a while, since the 1990’s, but I have not seen it. Proper Cannabis has had it on its menu here in Missouri but I had not encountered it until yesterday. Giesel is a cross between Chem Dog D and Mass Super Skunk. I have read that Chem D is the only indica phenotype of Chemdog/Chem Dog/Chemdawg. Source: click here.

I don’t want to get bogged down in the indica/sativa dichotomy because it might not exist. And this Giesel is a good example of how the same joint can affect two people in the same room smoking the same weed in two different ways. My buddy did get a physical lift. He was heating up frozen soup on a wood stove and then on a hot plate in this old Farmhouse that has been in his family since the 1950s.

Meanwhile, I was laid out—but awake!—in a recliner chair known around here as “Doug’s Chair” because a guy named Doug left it here once after a Fall Farm Party camp-out. It’s a great chair. And, for me, it was the perfect place to lie back, blazed in the mind by the Giesel. I had my eyes closed but I was otherwise alert, listening to my buddy cook food and work the wood stove. I just wasn’t very talkative. I had a thrumming current of high electricity running just behind my eyelids. It was a pleasant experience. Great for kicking back on a couch or lying in a hammock while listening to your favorite music or a baseball game.

This is Doug’s Chair, folded up.

If I saw an eighth of Giesel, I’d pick it up. This was also an educative evening for me vis a vis pre-rolls. I have been a bit of a snob, prig, snooty-nose when it comes to pre-rolls. I like to get bud in a jar (or a bag) and get my eyes and my nose on it before I grind it up and roll it in paper. I wonder what actually goes into pre-rolls: is it just trim, or worse, larf? Whatever part of the plant Proper put in this Giesel pre-roll, it did the job. Pleasant smoke, good burn, and strong effects, which could have you cooking or could have you laid out, depending on the person, and the moment in which they puff.
