‘Scotch Bacio by Abundant Organics

This time earlier in the day after not so much alcohol. As a one-ee, as opposed to a joint. Effects are strong and clear, clear and potent. It’s a smooth smoke. I picked up this “super eighth” grown by Abundant Organics earlier this year in Tucson, Arizona. I’d been sitting on it for a few months. Fear not, the jar was competently sealed. The bud was cured. And they didn’t short me. 4.72 grams in the jar. Seriously, the Abundant Organics BOGO at Trulieve has to be one of the best deals for legal weed anywhere in the country. Y’all in Arizona have got yourselves a good weed scene.

I had AO’s ‘Scotch Bacio (short for Butterscotch Bacio) for the first time late in 2022, as a gram I bought at Prime Leaf. I wasn’t into the dessert strains or Gelato crosses back then but I was trying just about anything Prime Leaf had on its menu (which was still a great menu back in 2022, but that’s a discussion for another day).

Then I picked up an eighth of Butterscotch Bacio early in 2024 from a dispensary in New Mexico. That was the High Noon Cult Butterscotch Bacio, and it was fantastic. I have a strain review of that jar that you can find here.

I cracked the AO ‘Scotch Bacio about a week ago. The first time I smoked it was while I was drinking, later in the day, as a joint (.35 grams), after some friends stopped over somewhat unexpectedly (but they were welcome), and it all might have been too much. I got stoned and retreated into myself for twenty minutes or so. Then I was able to unwrap myself and be present in the festivities.

Today I smoked some of the ‘Scotch Bacio through a one-hitter and it is giving me a lift. It does have a bite. The experience begins as a drilling down. This is how it begins but not how it ends. You gotta get through the bite. Embrace the bite. The smoke comes in and it takes a look around. It turns over stones. It pulls your skeletons out of the closet. It has me questioning myself, feeling not good enough. Which can be unpleasant. And would be really unpleasant if it were not temporary. I try to accept the introspection, I try to learn something from it.

Then I find Lord of the Rings: Two Towers and I lose myself into it, contentedly. Through the movie and into it I ease into a buzzy, bright high where a good movie is all I need. It’s Christmas Eve 2024. I get weepy and it feels so good. The elves show up. The scenery in this movie is incredible. New Zealand. The battle scenes.

A very even grind on the ‘Scotch Bacio from Abundant Organics. 4.72 grams in the jar.

When a commercial comes on I flip channels and stumble onto the OG Iron Chef. I remember watching that show 24 years ago, when I was in college, when I first started using marijuana. Iron Chef was one of the go-to watches while smoking up. It’s still good. One of the original cooking competitions. You don’t need to be high to enjoy it!

Back to Two Towers. The ents show up a.k.a. the tree people. Just one one-ee has imparted upon me a high that has lasted now for two hours….

Gotta love the seal on these AO super eighths. This is how it’s done, Missouri!

I believe the lineage of ‘Scotch Bacio to be Bacio Gelato crossed with Burnt Toast. My source is the Darkstart Seedbank site, which at one time had ‘Scotch Bacio seeds for sale. Currently, they are out of stock. There is very little info online about the genetics of Butterscotch Bacio.

Bacio Gelato is just another name for Gelato #41, courtesy of Sherbinskis. My source for this is Seedfinder.eu, check out the link. Gelato #41 is one particular cut or phenotype of Gelato. Gelato is Thin Mint GSC crossed with Sunset Sherbet, a couple of classic building blocks of modern cannabis genetics.

You’ll see ‘Scotch Bacio classified as an indica, or indica leaning. To me it plays out as a straight-up hybrid or maybe a 60/40 indica. It’s hard to classify because the first effect is the biting headrush, an effect typically ascribed to your sickest sativa. But look at the genetics of Gelato. You have Durban Poison up one branch of the tree, and the Burmese sativa up the other branch of the tree. These strains show through strong, and early on in the process. That’s why I think it’s a little misleading to call Gelato an indica. It’s not that simple.

Anyway, Burnt Toast is the other parent, if this lineage is even accurate. Burnt Toast is the result of a cross between French Toast and Berners Cookies. Not exactly household strain names. Using Seedfinder to explore this lineage. Scanning up the lineage tree, the only different ingredient the Burnt Toast appears to offer is a different cut of OG Kush, namely Face-Off OG, a version of OG Kush that has spawned some of my favorite strains (Animal Face, to name one).

I’d pick up any grower’s version of ‘Scotch Bacio. Abundant Organics grows a good one.

‘Scotch Bacio joint, 12.29.2024

I smoked the ‘Bacio again last night and it had me putting pen to paper, so I am going to tack this second journal entry onto the first. This time I got more flavor from the smoke. It has a menthol taste or effect, slightly numbing my tongue. Pleasantly so.

This is the head rush. Mind is ramping up, wants something to chew through. How about some math? If I smoke two .35 gram joints of flower a day, that means I will use 250 grams of flower a year. In terms of eighths, that comes out to 250/3.5, or 70 eighths a year. If these jars cost, let’s say, $36 per jar (after tax and a tip for the tender) then I will need 70 times $36 or $2500 per year to sustain this weed smoking habit/hobby.

I am fairly baked on the Bacio. The come-on was a little edgy and presents the possibility of going down any number of rabbit holes, so watch where you step. Tonight, it was fun and worthwhile to spend that mental energy on some math and budget work.

From math, I transitioned into a spurt of cleaning. I got some bleach into a bucket and mixed it with water (5% bleach solution) and used that and an abrasive sponge to clean my toilet. We moved into a new house here in Missouri last month, and we are now on a septic system so I’ve been reluctant to use bleach but it feels like the toilet wants a bleach cleaning at least once a month, so I’m using the bucket to hold the bleach, and I’m sponging the water back into the bucket, which I will dump outside instead of flushing, in order to keep the bleach out of the septic system. Bleach kills bacteria and whatever else, which I want for the toilet but not for the septic. Bacio!

An hour passes, maybe more…

Had a drink, had a beer. There is some drama going on with my wife’s family, in Tucson, where this ‘Scotch Bacio hails from. Coincidence, LOL.

I’ve been the mostly quiet bystander. She’s been on the phone. The TV’s been on mute. We had music playing low, best of 2024 playlist, as curated by me. I am experiencing a level of serenity, of placidness. Just listening. The Bacio has had a smooth but strong current and carry. I smoked that joint three hours ago. I’ll soon be ready for another.

The come-on remains pretty strong. The smoke had me up in my mind, then toilet bowl cleaning. Then I heard her upstairs getting animated on the phone. I feel good. Soft and sharp at the same time. Content. We knew this problem was going to arise, not if but when. And, darn it, if I have to go out to Tucson then I’ll just have to pick up another jar of the ‘Scotch Bacio, won’t I?

Second Bacio joint of the night. Solid ride, second wind. Still sippin’, still awake, 10:09 p.m. I get back in touch myself by writing more things down. They only sell the finest goods. Everything there’s been trademarked.
